Classically Cliched Dec 02, 2006 10:20PM PST

Here's a list of songs that we really don't need to hear any more of(or in some cases about) or at least not hear on every TV commercial. But to give the respect due these songs(most of them ARE pretty damn good, just get played way too much) we're calling this CLASICALLY Cliched, then going through some classics that aren't played enough. Now since I have a sadly limited musical knowledge(I'm working on it alright I just PREFER certain things) feel free to add, argue etc. Just a heads up: This is just for fun, so for God's sake relax your "you know nothing" comments fanboys Classicaly Cliched: 1) Black Sabbath's Iron Man Good ol' catchy riff, good ol' catchy riff, good ol' catchy riff. After so many Dodge Ram commercials of this(sometimes played back to back) you get the point. 2) Eminem's Lose Yourself It's very inspirational but EVERY sports movie ad? Even AeroSmith's Dream On isn't that overplayed(more recently, not saying it wasn't) 3) Jaws It would be useful if John the Fisherman(in-joke) didn't respond with a knowing laugh when his buddy tried to warn him of a shark coming through music 4) Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit This was exciting because it was something good from the underground people didn't usually hear on the radio. Let's stop playing this and start playing something good and underground people usually don't hear on the radio. 5) Green Day's Good Riddance(Time of Your Life) It's very moving and nice cello or whatever-the-hell(I like the Irishness cause I'm Irish) but "DannyBoy" at least has the decency to be played only at every Irish funeral and NOT every time a major TV character dies 6) Metallica's Enter Sandman It's still a great song but whoever still requests this please just buy the album already. Look I promise you it's good. 7) Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven This isn't really overplayed by mainstream radio per se, but it's time people realized Led Zep's done plenty more good songs. 8) Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall Ditto 9) Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time Aside from Children of Bodom's cover(excused because of heaviness/solo) the jokes have gotten really old. 10) Bheetoven's (I think 9th Symphony, anyone who remembers what dun-dun-dun-dun goes to confirm or correct please) Actually it wouldn't be cliched.... if we ever used anything but the very first part >_< Next Blog: Unclearly Classics, great songs the masses don't hear
