An album to album VS matchup between Metallica and Megadeth. Round 1- The Beggining Deth~ Killing is my Business... and Business is Good! Tallica~ Kill 'Em All Tallica comes out very strong with songs like "Hit the Lights", "Four Horsemen", Cliff Burton's awesome bass solo "Pulling Teeth", "No Remorse" and "Seek n' Destroy". Deth comes right back with "Mechanix", "Loved to Deth", "Killing is my Business", and "Looking Down the Cross". Now this set of albums is a great way to understand the similarities and differences between Metallica and Megadeth. It's also the first time(obviously) Megadeth had a "..." in their CD title. Now since "Mechanix" and "Four Horsemen" have practically the exact same riffs, let's compare. "Mechanix" is a more humorous song about Dave Mustaine's(Deth lead sing/guitars)uh... first time. It focuses mainly on speed. "Four Horsemen" is a more mythical song about obviously, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It's slower than "Mechanix" but Kirk Hammet(Lead guitar Tallica) and Cliff Burton's(bass Tallica) interpretation of the song also allows the interlude to be quite a bit more meaty than "Mechanix"'s. Where "Mechanix" has one main, very fast solo, Tallica has a few solos stuffed into the interlude making it more melodic and interesting than Deth's but sacrificing some of the Holy Crap that's Fast! mosh potential of Megadeth's song. This is also a good way to show how Metallica and Megadeth differ. Megadeth was focused on being fast and occassionally funny, showing awesome musicianship in the process. Metallica was more focused on creating almost orchestral-like scores that focused on more fantastical(word?) ideas. Back to the fight: Megadeth wins by default because Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine had a hand in BOTH albums, writing many of the riffs for Kill 'Em All and Killing is My Business and of course being the leadman on Killing is My Bussiness. But next time, both bands will write songs entirely seperately and from here on in there will be no more defaults. Who will win next time? Will it be Metallica's huge breakthrough in songwriting ability, Ride the Lightning? Or what fans consider Megadeth's masterpiece, Peace Sells... But Who's Buyin'? One things for sure, it's gonna be hella close. (And that's good because Round 3 uh..... probably won't be close at all. Riff knows what I'm talking about)
